OUR COURSES
Dutch language and society (Taal en Maatschappij)
People who want to learn Dutch or who want to improve their level, can enrol
for Dutch Language and Society (Taal en Maatschappij). As a student of this programme you can participate in the following courses and activities: Dutch as
a Foreign Language (Nederlands als tweede taal), Alphabetizing and Arithmetics (Alfabetisering/rekenen), Knowledge of Dutch Society (Maatschappij Oriëntatie), Writing (Schrijfvaardigheid), Speaking (Spreekvaardigheid), Filling in Forms (Formulieren invullen), Language Training (Taalstages) and the editorship of
our magazine called Aansluiting. During our courses you will also practise Dutch with computers and as a student you will take part in three excursions.
Finally you will be very welcome at our annual celebration of the new year.

Integration (Inburgering)
If you are interested in an Integration course (Inburgering) you can call, visit or
e-mail us. Participating in an Integration course is only possible if the municipality of Nijmegen gives permission. There are specific conditions to be fulfilled.

COSTS FOR DUTCH LANGUAGE AND SOCIETY (Taal en Maatschappij)
D
ay courses
For day courses we use two rates: one rate for people who are registered in the municipality of Nijmegen and another for people who aren’t. The first group pays
€ 100,00 per school year. The second group pays € 500,00 per school year.
Refugees who can demonstrate that they are in a procedure of political asylum
pay no course fee.
People living on a social security benefit (WWB-uitkering) don’t pay for the course and the books if the municipality of Nijmegen has given permission. In that case all costs are paid.

Evening courses
For evening courses we use one tariff, i.e. € 500,00 per school year.

Study books
The costs of study books and all the other study material are paid by the students themselves, including refugees. The costs depend on the method that is used in class. People who receive social security benefit don’t have to pay for the books.
All their costs are paid by the municipality.

LANGUAGE LEVEL AND STUDY SKILLS
We organise fourteen Dutch Language and Society courses and two Integration courses. The language level and the learning speed depend on the group. Concerning the learning speed we differentiatie between three profiles: slow, average and fast. With regard to the language level we distinguish between: illiterate, 0 (beginners), A1, A2 and B1. These levels are based on the results of the tests made by the Cito Groep (nivortoetsen) and those made by the Bureau Interculturele Evaluatie (trajecttoetsen). These tests take place two times a year. The more advanced groups are prepared for the State’s Exam Dutch as a Foreign Language (Staatsexamen Nederlands als tweede taal) programme I or II. Students who have passed those exams have access to professional education
and universities in the Netherlands

OUR GROUPS
All our groups are put together based on two criteria: the language level and the study skills. This means that all our groups are mixed. In the groups you will find men and women of different ages and origin. The groups have fifteen persons at the most. The average group consists of ten persons.

DURATION AND FREQUENCY OF OUR COURSES
A school year at Intercity is similar to the school year in primary education.
During the school holidays there are no courses.
Each group gets lessons twice a week. Day courses take place on week-days
from 9:00 to 11:30 and from 13:00 to 15:00. Evening courses take place from 19:00 to 21:00. All classes can be attended in the community centre of Dukenburg (Wijkcentrum Dukenburg) where you will also find our office.

PROCEDURE OF ENROLMENT
Enrolments are possible during the whole year. If you decide to follow a course
at Intercity, we will make an appointment for an initial interview. During this interview our deans (trajectbegeleiders) will test your language level and your
study skills. They also take your personal situation and circumstances into consideration. This is important for the kind of lessons you will attend.
During your study at Intercity there will be regular contacts between you and the deans about your progress in Dutch.

DE BENGELS NURSERY
If you have children in the age between two months and four years you can take them to the nursery. You will find this nursery in the community centre of Dukenburg. You can pay separately for each visit or you can buy a ticket for ten visits. Visits paid separately will cost you € 2.50. A ticket costs € 15, which means that the price of each visit is € 1.50.
